The year 2011 can be well be termed as the year of tablets. While 2010 too saw several tablet launches, following the launch of Apple iPad. The year 2012 saw them going mainstream. 

The year witnessed the entry of several Indian telecom players entering the fray and heating up competition on both price and specs front. Here are top tablets of the year 2011.






Aakash




The world's cheapest tablet is made by UK-based DataWind. While it may not have specs to boast about, the price can't be argued with. A slightly better version with a capacitive screen is available for pre-order for Rs 2,999 only. Both can be purchased online from www. aakashtablet.com.



Apple iPad 2






The iPad2 is a tough one to beat. After becoming one of the fastest-selling products of all time, the iPad 2 still regularly sells out on store shelves. The combination of attractive pricing, powerful hardware, responsive screen and thousands of tablet-specific apps set it apart.


Samsung Galaxy Tab 750





The new Galaxy Tab 730 and 750 were the first real challengers to the iPad. Available in screen sizes of 8.9 and 10.1 inches respectively, the Tabs feature impressive hardware, high-quality touchscreens, dual cameras and long battery life. They are thinner and lighter than even the iPad2.


Reliance 3G Tab




One of the first full-featured (with phone functionality) budget Android tablets, the Reliance 3G Tab has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, Android 2.3, dual cameras, expandable memory, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi with hotspot, GPS and FM. It also comes with several pre-loaded apps. Only hitch is that it's locked to Reliance's network.

Sony may be a late entrant to the tablet market, but they've come in with guns blazing. The Tablet S features powerful hardware, a distinct 'folded magazine' shape, a high-quality screen, long battery life and a unique universal remote feature, it can be used to control a device that accepts IR commands.


Spice Tab Mi-720




Spice Mi-720 tablet runs on Android operating system. Priced at Rs 11,500 approximately, the Spice Mi-720 runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and is powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm Processor. 

Spice Mi-720 comes with a 7-inch display with 800x480 pixel resolution. The tablet can also be used as a smartphone as it carries a GSM SIM card slot. The Mi-720 comes with Adreno 200 graphics processor and also has a 4-Axis Gravity Sensor. 

The tablet supports 3G up to HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps Data speed. It has a a 2MP rear camera and a VGA frontal camera. On memory front, it has a 2Gb RAM + 4 Gb ROM. It supports 32GB of external memory via SD card.
